Festibière de Gatineau has received a huge sum of money from the federal government ahead of the 11th edition of the craft beer festival.

The Canada Economic Development (CED) for Québec Regions under the Tourism Relief Fund has given the organizing committee a non-repayable financial contribution of $500,000, it was announced on July 20 at a news conference.

“We would like to thank CED for this investment,” said Colin Laramée-Plouffe, co-chair of the Festibière de Gatineau. “This important contribution is a testament to the current and future impact of our event on the event and tourism industry in our region.”

“Our government continues to be here for tourism businesses and organizations,” said Greg Fergus, member of parliament for Hull-Aylmer. “The financial contribution granted to Festibière de Gatineau is excellent news for the region and its drawing power.”

The event, which takes place at the Place des festivals Zibi, expects to serve thousands of beer and music lovers from July 20 until July 30.

The $500,000 grant from the government is in addition to the festival's own investment of $500,000 over three years. The organizing committee said these investments will contribute to the development of unique infrastructures in Canada to attract festival-goers from everywhere.

“The experiential and sensory offer we are developing for the event will help distinguish the region as a tourism destination, and make the event a must-see throughout Québec,” added Laramée-Plouffe. “It's no longer just about making gastronomic or beer discoveries, it's how you discover them, through the experiences and settings that stimulate the imagination.”

“Our support represents an important step in our recovery efforts to attract tourists from Canada and around the world so that everyone can discover the best tourism experiences our country has to offer,” indicated Fergus. “And the unique experience and activities offered by the Festibière de Gatineau are a perfect example of this.”

Ticket information and the line-up of beers and musical acts can be found at the festival's website.
