Gatineau transit riders won’t be getting the full LRT experience until 2020

Most Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) buses that cross over the river into Ottawa make a stop on Wellington Street, but with the opening of the Confederation Line on Saturday, the hope was that buses would make a pit stop at Lyon Station.

The new station on Queen Street is a block south and would provide commuters with quicker access to areas like the University of Ottawa or Gloucester.

The STO has confirmed that buses will continue to stop on Wellington Street for the foreseeable future, forcing riders who want to board the light rail system to walk an extra block to meet up with the LRT.

Spokesperson Karine Sauvé says there will be 'no route changes at all' until at least 2020.

General Manager of Transportation Services with the City of Ottawa John Manconi says OC Transpo and STO have been great partners throughout the entire process.

“They've been very patient with our delays,” said Manconi. “Our customers depend on their service and vice-versa, so we're working with them through the dates.”

Manconi added that the system will be fully integrated, and that all cards for STO will work on OC Transpo from day one.
