Herongate tenants ramp up pressure on landlord

By OttawaMatters Staff

Tenants facing a mass eviction will march to demand repairs to their homes and the cancellation of their impending evictions.

The tenants have been told to vacate their rental townhouses, along the south side of Heron Road, by the end of September. The owner, Timbercreek, plans to demolish the 105 townhomes because of the high maintenance costs.

Tenants plan to march on Timbercreek's office to file dozens of work orders for repairs — some of which, tenants say, they had notified Timbercreek of more than a year ago.

The Herongate Tenant Coalition, which is fighting the eviction plans, plans to contact city by-law officials to ensure the landlord carries out the repairs.
