A homeowner and two firefighters are recovering from injuries after a house fire, north of Kemptville.

Officials say the fire started at a home on Malakoff Road, near Cowell Road, before 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 23.

Someone driving by saw smoke and flames and called 911 before helping the homeowner escape the burning structure.

Upon their arrival, firefighters quickly doused two propane tanks on the property to prevent them from exploding.

The homeowner and pair of injured firefighters were cared for by paramedics at the scene.

Residents are asked to avoid the area while firefighters shuttle water along Malakoff Road, between Cowell Road and Mackey Road. They're still putting out hot spots.

The fire is under control but the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
