Over 500 Public Service Alliance Canada (PSAC) members rallied in downtown Ottawa trying to put pressure on the federal government to step up action in replacing the Phoenix pay system.
It's been three years since the initial roll-out of the payroll system, and in that time civil servants have either been overpaid, underpaid or not paid at all due to problems with Phoenix.
The government has slowly started to fix the backlog of pay issues, however, it's still dealing with hundreds of thousands of unresolved transactions.
“It has ruined lives, basically, of many of our members” Chirs Aylward, PSAC President told Ottawa Today on 1310 NEWS. “[People] wake up every Monday morning and wondering, 'Am I going to get paid properly this week?'”
The union wants to see more action put forward in the upcoming federal budget by replacing the system and compensate for the financial hardship workers experienced.
“They have to put more resources into stabilizing this pay system, they have to hire more compensation advisors in the pay centres,” Aylward added.
Civil servants have been showing up to work every day, despite the fiasco Phoenix has created, and Aylward says the government needs to start paying its members back.
