Police in Kingston laid charges against a 38-year-old after a vehicle investigation earlier this month.

The incident took place on Feb. 16 in the area of Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard in the city of Kingston.

Police found a small quantity of suspected fentanyl and upon the individual's arrest and further investigation, police also found 47.9 grams of suspected dyed carfentanil, 65 grams of purple fentanyl, 6.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a set of brass knuckles and a large amount of Canadian currency.

Carfentanil, which is used as a tranquilizing agent for large mammals, is a synthetic opioid that is 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more potent that fentanyl and can present a serious risk to public safety.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were later released on conditions with a future court date.
