An Ottawa distillery is racking up awards on the international stage.
Mark Watson, co-founder of Dunrobin Distilleries, told The Sam Laprade Show on July 27 with guest host Derick Fage that they're “tickled pink” over the 10 awards received across three global competitions.
Their accolades include winning The Gin Masters and coming in second place for best Canadian whisky.
An impressive feat, especially considering the distillery open in 2017. However, Watson said making alcohol has always been a hobby, now that hobby is a dedicated passion.
He added that he's been lifelong friends with his Dunrobin's partner, Adrian Spitzer.
“Independent of each other and together, we've always been experimenting with making alcohol,” he said.
Fifteen years ago, Watson moved to Dunrobin and started experimenting with growing barley and making whisky on an organically certified farm.
A serial entrepreneur, Watson has always been passionate about the environment and nature.
“It was all about trying to find the best ingredients that we could…and be soft on the planet at the same time.”
