A long-time eastern Ontario politician is retiring.

Jim McDonell, Progressive Conservative MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, says he won't run for a fourth term at Queen's Park.

In a statement released on Tuesday, November 23, on Facebook, McDonell says, “The time has come to pass the torch.”

McDonell was first elected as an MPP in 2011 and won re-election again in 2014 and 2018.

Prior to entering provincial politics, McDonell served three terms as a township councillor and was mayor of South Glengarry from 2003 until 2011.

He says he will remain active in continuing to improve the quality of life in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

McDonell would retire on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, as Ontarians go to the polls the next day.
