Montreal man receives over $3K in fines after Gatineau police chase

A Montreal man has been slapped with more than $3,000 in fines after a police chase involving a stolen vehicle in Gatineau.
The Sûreté du Québec tried to stop a vehicle on Autoroute 50, near KM 159, around 3:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16. The driver failed to stop, leading to a short police chase.
According to police, the driver took the Laurentides exit and lost control of the vehicle on Petit Village Street.
The 27-year-old driver could face charges, including concealment, dangerous driving, absconding and breach of condition. He also received fines totalling $3,244 and seven demerit points for driving a vehicle with a sanctioned/alcohol license, non-compliance with a mandatory stop sign and an offense related to his license.
Police learned the vehicle has been reported stolen in Gatineau.
The accused is due to appear at the Gatineau Courthouse on Monday, Jan. 16.
