A Montreal woman is facing charges after a child was left alone at a restaurant in Chelsea.

On Sunday, April 10, a police officer with the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais Public Security Service responded to a call from a restaurant manager who was concerned about the prolonged absence of a woman who had dropped off the 11-year-old child a few hours earlier.

Police say a woman brought her child to the restaurant around 4:30 p.m. and ordered a meal, then told staff she had to run a few errands and would be back in approximately 45 minutes.

Around 7 p.m., the manager noticed the woman had not returned and made the call to police,

The police officer who responded to the scene made several unsuccessful attempts to contact the child's mother, before reaching her by phone around 7:30 p.m..

According to police, the woman told the officer she was at a spa and would be back at the restaurant in a few minutes.

Police say the 38-year-old mother made light of the situation and seemed confused as to why police had responded.

A report was made to socials services in Montreal.
