NCC and City of Gatineau give downtown creative hub a new lease on life

The City of Gatineau have declared 101 rue Montcalm, the new home of l'Entre-Deux (which means “in-between”), a space dedicated to artists and art workshops.

The project is the result of a collaboration between the National Capital Commission (NCC), the City of Gatineau, Culture Outaouais and AXENÉO7, which have teamed up to give artists a creative hub in the heart of the downtown area.

Culture Outaouais and AXENÉO7, will be responsible for the programming available on the property, which is owned by the NCC, for the next four months.

“I'm delighted by this initiative, on the one hand because it's the outcome of a joint effort by several partners intent on bringing this project to life, and on the other hand because it provides Gatineau artists with one more showcase to highlight their talent, creations and ambitions,” says Gatineau mayor, Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin.

L'entre-Deux will host ten or so local artists and serve as a space for them research and create over the summer.

The building has also been added as a stop on Gatineau's Culture Trail, for residents and tourists to see.

The project is part of Gatineau's goal of turning the downtown area into a culture hot spot.
