The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) and Ottawa Hospital have launched a new prize that focuses on the healing power of art.
Catherine Sinclair, deputy director and chief curator at the OAG, told The Sam Laprade Show on July 20 that the TRIAS art prize gives a platform to artists in the community and will have their art become part of the Ottawa Hospital collection.
The prize “really focuses and centres on creative well-being,” Sinclair said, adding that it is valued at $40,000, and the inaugural funding was generously provided by Ottawa residents Jennifer Toby and Dr. François Auclair.
The prize has three levels of awards that artists can apply for by July 30, including the Art and Science Residency Award, the Indigenous Art as Healing Award and the Art is Healing Award.
“We invite artists of all capacities and abilities to apply for these prizes,” she said.
More information about the prize can be found on the OAG website.
