A new tourist draw is coming to Lansdowne Park this holiday season: The Ottawa Christmas Market.
Santa Clause was in town on Thursday morning to announce the market, which will be modelled after Christmas markets in Europe. It will feature live entertainment, local artisans along with seasonal food and drinks in Aberdeen Square.
Organized by the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG), it is expected to become an annual Christmas tradition that draws in thousands of visitors from around the globe.
“Ottawa is a winter city and this new attraction is a welcome addition for visitors to enjoy with all our wintertide offerings” explained Ottawa Tourism's Lesley Mackay. “We're happy to have another reasons to encourage visitors to choose Ottawa during the festive and winter season.”
Mayor Jim Watson was on hand for the announcement as well, noting the popularity of the European-styled Christmas markets throughout North America.
“It's going to bring more people to Lansdowne which is great. It's going to be an opportunity for local crafts people to sell their wares and promote their good ideas,” the mayor explained. “It really is going to kick off the Christmas season!”
The Ottawa Christmas Market will be open on weekends in Aberdeen Square from November 29 until December 22.
