No injuries following three-alarm fire at mall in Nepean

By Dani-Elle Dubé

No one was hurt following a three-alarm fire that happened at a commercial row in the city’s south end over the weekend.

Ottawa firefighters were called to Colonnade Road South between Merivale Road and Prince of Wales Drive just before 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 8.

The fire happened at a one-storey commercial mall that housed The Hardwood Outlet, a flooring business.

When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy black smoke coming from the back of the building.

Two more calls for resources were called in to help fight the blaze.

An OC Transpo bus was requested to come in to help provide shelter in the cold weather.

The fire was declared under control by about 12:20 p.m. but firefighters remained on scene to extinguish hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
