Number of motor vehicle collisions increased by 40 per cent over last year: OPP

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they have responded to 29 fatal commercial motor vehicles crashes this year alone.
The OPP posted in a tweet on Sunday, July 10 that at least 40 people were killed in these crashes. The number of motor vehicle collisions have also increased by 40 per cent over 2021, according to OPP.
Police responded to two fatal collisions over the weekend, one in the South Stormont area and the other one involving a motorcycle in the Lanark County area that left a 63-year-old dead.

As part of their Operation Safe Driver campaign, from July 10 to July 16, officers will be monitoring roads for motorists engaging in risky driving,

Meanwhile Ottawa police say five people were killed on Ottawa roads in the past week.
That includes a fatal collision involving a truck and a motorcycle in Ottawa's east end on July 7.
“Five families are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Please take care on the roads. Your full attention is required at all times,” the Ottawa Police Service tweeted.
“There are thousands of people commuting in Ottawa at any given time driving, walking, running, cycling, and more. Let’s watch out for one another.”
Tragically, five people have been killed on Ottawa roads within the last week. Five families are grieving the loss of their loved ones.
