OC Transpo says its working with the manufacturer of a number of its double-decker buses to determine what may have caused one of them to end up in a ditch.
One of the city's double-decker buses travelled off the road and slid into a ditch on Carling Avenue near Herzberg Road in Kanata on Monday, August 9.
No one was injured in the incident but OC Tranpso says it has since removed all 19 double-deckers of the same model.
While its investigation is ongoing, the city says there is no impact to regular bus service or the ongoing R1 replacement bus service along the Confederation Line.
The light rail Confederation Line remains out of service after a train suffered a single-axle derailment on Sunday evening. OC Transpo, Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are investigating that incident as well as inspecting all other trains in Ottawa's fleet. The rail line is expected to be down for several days, but the city is running R1 replacement buses in its place.
The city says the light rail closure is not costing taxpayers any additional money as RTM's monthly payment is calculated based on several factors including vehicle availability, station availability, kilometres travelled and other indicators. As a result of the current service suspension, the city explains that deductions from RTM’s monthly payment will be significant.
