Ontario reporting just over 1,200 people in hospital with COVID-19

By CityNews Ottawa

Ontario is reporting 1,207 people in hospital with COVID-19 on May 19, a decrease in numbers reported one day earlier.

On May 18, the province reported 1,248 COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Health officials are reporting 168 people in intensive care units (ICUs) today, compared to the 163 people in ICUs reported yesterday. The province is reporting 23 additional deaths related to the virus today, an increase from the 16 people who died from COVID-19 yesterday, but health officials say three of the deaths reported today are part of a data cleanup.

The province is revealing 1,565 new COVID-19 cases today, but access to PCR testing is limited to certain groups. The scientific director of Ontario's panel of COVID-19 advisers has said multiplying the daily case count by 10 would give a more accurate picture.

Ottawa Public Health is reporting nine people in hospital with COVID-19, along with two deaths and no people in ICUs.
