Public Health Ontario (PHO) is confirming 37 cases in Ottawa as of Friday, Aug. 19.
PHO is also reporting that there is one more probable case of monkeypox in Ottawa, which would bring the current total of cases in the city of Ottawa to 38 once the probable case is confirmed.
Patrick O’Byrne, a nurse practitioner at Ottawa Public Health’s Sexual Health Centre, told The Rob Snow Show with guest host Derick Fage on Aug. 19 that Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is using a three part approach when it comes to addressing the monkeypox virus in Ottawa that includes proving information to communities across the city.
“Providing information like what people should do when they are affected, the signs they need to look for, what to do when you have symptoms, where do you go,” he said.
The second part of OPH's approach is providing information to family doctors and nurse practitioners on how you test if you believe you have symptoms. The final phase of the three part approach is vaccination.
“As of yesterday (Aug. 18), we have administered over 3,000 vaccine doses,” said O'Byrne.
