By CityNews Ottawa

The Ottawa Student Transportation Authority (OSTA) is launching a campaign in hopes of recruiting school bus drivers.

OSTA and more than 10 operators in the Ottawa area such as Roxoborugh, Voyago, M.L. Bradley, First Student, and Premier Bus Lines Incorporated are teaming for the initiative called 'Drive Yellow'.

Vicky Kyriaco, the general manager and chief administrator officer with OSTA told The Sam Laprade Show on Tuesday, June 28 the issue of driver shortages has plagued the last few school years, especially as OSTA tried to navigate with school boards from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have been working hard to put a plan together,” she said. “We are not just planning for September, we also have to plan for the next few years.”

Kyriaco said the job of bus drivers is aimed at people looking for part-time work and who have a flexible schedule.

Training lasts roughly three weeks, and combines virtual, in class and field training.
