Ottawa moving into ‘red-control’ status on Friday, says province

By CityNews Ottawa

The Ontario government is moving the Ottawa Public Health region into the 'red-control' level of its COVID-19 response framework, following a rise in COVID-19 cases within the capital.

The new restrictions come into effect as of Friday, March 19, at 12:01 a.m.

The decision was made at the request of Ottawa's Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches, due to concerning trends in COVID-19 rates in the city.

From March 10 to 15, 2021, Ottawa Public Health's case rate increased by 24.8, to reach 46.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The 'red-control' zone includes limiting social gatherings to five people indoors and 25 outdoors, while settings such as movie theatres will be required to close.

Full information on the restrictions can be found on the Ontario government's website
