A motion to raise the Pride flag at Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) institutions has passed.
Trustees voted nine to one to see the rainbow flag will flown for the first time ever on OCSB property.
Starting next month, the Pride flag will be flown on a second pole located at the board's headquarters at 570 W Hunt Club Rd. The pole will then be used to fly the board's flag in the other months of the year.
The board also voted in favour of adding a second flag pole at all of its 83 school building locations but that will not be done in time for Pride month this year.
OCSB Trustee Spencer Warren told the meeting that this move demonstrates the board's commitment to foster student well-being.
Tonight we celebrate a huge milestone showing that we unconditionally love and support ALL our students and staff! #OCSB

Warren went on to say that it also shows the community that Catholic schools are an inclusive environment.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board, like many large urban Catholic School Boards, will fly the Rainbow or Progress flag at their Board Offices, commencing this June 2021. ???????????? Read our full update: https://t.co/cX6QSWVd0N #ocsbEquity #ocsbBeCommunity #PrideMonth pic.twitter.com/S94JHJughV

The motion comes after multiple Toronto-area Catholic school boards decided to fly the Pride flag on their properties, for the first time ever, earlier this month.
