Ottawa’s COVID-19 hospitalization continue climb while active cases drop

Ottawa’s COVID-19 hospital numbers are up for a second day in a row, although active cases continue to experience a dip.
According to Ottawa Public Health’s report for Sunday, October 31, three more people are in hospital, bringing the current total to 11 (although the number of ICU patients remains the same at two).
The number of active cases in the city is down to 197 from Saturday’s 208. Among those cases that have cleared are eight children in the zero to nine age group.
Meanwhile, 22 more cases have been recorded in the city, slightly up from Saturday’s 20.
That means Ottawa represents about 6.5 per cent of all cases reported across the province.
The total number of cases, in Ottawa, since the pandemic started now stands at 30,854.
No new outbreaks have been declared anywhere in the city, although one has cleared from a childcare centre or school.
Two outbreaks continue at healthcare institutions, 11 at childcare centres or schools and one in the community.
The rate of COVID per 100,000 residents has seen another drop to 14.5 compared to Saturday’s 16.6.
The positivity rate in the community continues to stay at 1.4 per cent.
There are no new deaths added to Ottawa's count, which remains at 603.
Public Health Ontario has the Eastern Ontario Health Unit reporting 16 new cases of the virus, up from Saturday’s six.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit has only one new case to report while no new cases have been recorded by the Renfrew County and District Health Unit.
Public Health Ontario has 340 new cases for Sunday's count of the virus across the province, down from Saturday’s 356.
This brings the province’s total number of cases since the pandemic started to 599,955.
The province added three deaths to its tally, bringing the total provincial death toll to 9,871.
In the last 24 hours, 109 COVID patients have been able to leave the hospital, however, 104 continue to receive care.
One more person has entered the ICU, bringing the total up to 133.
As well, two more people have been taken to the ICU and put on ventilators.
Of those in hospital but not in the ICU, 90 are unvaccinated, 36 are fully vaccinated and 11 are partially vaccinated.
Of the patients in the ICU, 66 are unvaccinated, 13 are fully vaccinated and five are partially.
