Ottawa’s COVID-19 hospitalizations up, more outbreaks declared at schools and childcare centres

Two more people have entered the hospital with COVID-19 while two more outbreaks are declared in schools and childcare centres.

On Saturday, October 30, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) reported eight people now in hospital with the virus, although two people remain in the ICU (unchanged from Friday).

Among those in hospitals are one person in the 30-39 age group, two in the 60-69 age group, three in the 70-79 age group (two of which are in the ICU) and two in the 80-89 age group.

The two new outbreaks declared at childcare centres and schools now brings the total number of ongoing outbreaks to 12.

The outbreaks at childcare centres are reported to be at École élémentaire catholique Des Pionniers and École élémentaire public Michaël-Jean.

Meanwhile, there are no new outbreaks to declare in healthcare institutions or in the community, keeping the number of ongoing outbreaks at two and one, respectively.

For Saturday, 20 new cases have been reported in the city — that’s down from Friday’s 28.

That means Ottawa represents about 4.8 per cent of all new cases reported across the province on Saturday.

This brings Ottawa’s total number of cases since the pandemic started to 30,832.

Active cases have gone down slightly to 208 from 213 since Friday.

Of the active cases among the zero to nine age group, four have cleared up in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 53.

No new deaths have been reported, keeping the local death toll at 603.

The rate of COVID reported in the last seven days per 100,000 residents remains at 18.3.

The positivity rate in the community as well is unchanged at 1.4 per cent.

Public Health Ontario has the Eastern Ontario Health Unit reporting six new cases of the virus.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit has one new case.

Meanwhile, the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit hasn’t reported any.

According to Public Health Ontario, the province reported 356 new cases across the province on Saturday, down from Friday’s 419.

This brings the total number of cases since the pandemic started to 599,615.

Four new deaths have been added to the provincial count, bringing the total to 9,869.

Two more people have entered hospitals with the virus in Ontario on Saturday, bringing the total to 213.

As well, two others have entered the ICU (now 132) while three patients have been able to leave the ICU who were on a ventilator (now 86).

Of the patients in hospital but not in the ICU, 90 are unvaccinated, 36 are fully vaccinated and 11 are partially vaccinated.

Meanwhile, in ICUs, 66 patients are unvaccinated, 13 are fully vaccinated and five are partially vaccinated.
