Ottawa’s live event venues in ‘red alert,’ asking for help

By Jason White

The live events industry says it has been devastated by COVID-19 restrictions and will try to raise awareness of its plight with an event to light up venues in red, across the nation.

Fourteen Ottawa live events venues will participate in the event, called Light Up Live, including Ottawa and Gatineau city halls, the National Arts Centre (NAC) and TD Place.

The organizer, an industry group called Live Event Community, says the venues will be lit in red beginning at 8 p.m., Tuesday.

COVID-19 restrictions forced live event venues to close back in March, and Ontario's re-opening plan currently has the venues scheduled to be among the last to reopen.

The Light Up Live organizer calls on governments to provide immediate and ongoing financial support to live events companies and their employees.
