The vaccination effort is progressing very well in the Outaouais region, according to the local health unit.
Dr. Brigitte Pinard, interim director of public health for Centre intégré de Santé et Services sociaux de l'Outaouais (CISSSO) says a significant number of residents are choosing to get vaccinated.
“We vaccinate nearly one per cent of the population per day.”
She is strongly encouraging parents who have school-aged children to get vaccinated as soon as their eligibility opens.
While the vaccine rollout is moving along at a nice pace, public health measures in the region remain the most restrictive in Quebec.
“It is very important at this point to take a very cautious approach to easing [COVID-19] measures in the region,” says Dr. Pinard.
She notes that the COVID-19 situation in the region is still very fragile.
Non-essential businesses remain closed in the Outaouais, while a curfew is still in effect each evening at 8 p.m.
