The City of Ottawa is reopening parking lots at three of its biggest and most popular parks, as it launches a program aimed at helping residents navigate how they can use the spaces.
Mayor Jim Watson announced Friday afternoon that residents will be allowed to park at Mooney's Bay, Britannia Beach and Petrie Island once again.
He added that many residents have been contacting him, unsure about what is allowed when it comes to using city parks since the city has opened local green spaces but is still asking that residents stay off amenities like playgrounds and sports fields.
He said residents will now find park ambassadors at the city's busiest parks. They will be trained city staff who can provide guidance for residents.
“They can provide information, answer questions and clarify any confusion about what's permitted at city parks while maintaining a safe two-metre distance from others,” said Watson.
The ambassadors will be found in pairs, wearing green City of Ottawa shirts, and on chilly days they will wear red jackets identifying them as city staff.
The mayor stressed that these ambassadors will not be giving tickets, they are simply existing Parks and Recreation Department employees.
