Person treated following high rise fire in Heron Gate

One person was treated by paramedics following a high rise fire that happened in the city’s south end.

Ottawa Fire Services received a 911 call from a resident of a high rise at 2840 Baycrest Dr. off Heron Road at Cedarwood Drive in the Heron Gate neighbourhood Saturday evening.

The caller reported heavy black smoke from her neighbouring unit and was able to evacuate the occupant of the fire unit safely.

Dispatch then advised the caller to activate a pull station and evacuate the building.

The occupant of the fire unit was treated by Ottawa Paramedics for smoke inhalation.

The fire was declared under control at about 7:50 p.m. and a stop loss at around 8 p.m.

An Ottawa Fire Investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
