Police issue tickets for a number of offences during one day enforcement campaign in parts of the city

Ottawa police officers conducted traffic enforcement blitzes in various parts of the city on Valentine's Day.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) had officers deployed on Bank Street and Preston Street using automated licence plate reader (ALPR) technology on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Officers issued 68 tickets, including four for stunt driving, three for speeding, 24 for expired licence plates, six for drivers with out a licence and four for distracted driving.

“Our continued focus is to remove high-risk and problematic drivers from city streets, and it all goes toward enhancing the safety and well-being of all road users,
whether they’re driving, cycling or walking,” said Denis Hull, staff sergeant with the OPS Traffic and Escort Unit.

OPS traffic officers partnered with the Ministry of Transportation on the same day and initiated a vehicle inspection blitz in the east end, where three vehicles were deemed unsafe and taken off the road.

“One truck had only three of six nuts attached to its wheels,” said Sgt. Hull. “We will continue to do these types of inspections to ensure that all commercial vehicles are in compliance.”
