Province announces funding for school projects in Nepean

By CityNews Ottawa

The provincial government announced on April 26 funding of nearly $55 million for three school projects in Barrhaven.

This money will build and improve schools and create new licenced child care spaces.

“Ontario understands that the families in Nepean deserve affordable child care that works and schools that enhance learning for our children,” said Member of Provincial Parliament for Nepean Lisa MacLeod. “I am proud of our government’s work to bring 1,783 new student and child care spaces to Nepean. This will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment for years to come.”

The three projects include:

  • • $24.2 million to Half Moon Bay Elementary School
  • • $12.5 million to École Élémentaire Barrhaven Sud
  • • $18.1 million to Barrhaven South Catholic Elementary School

These investments will create 1,656 new student spaces, 127 new licensed child care spaces, and seven new child care rooms.

“We are building new schools, building more affordable child care spaces, and building hope and opportunity for Ontario students as they learn in more normal and safer classrooms,” said Ontario Minister of Education Stephen Lecce. “We believe that students deserve to learn in-person in state-of-the-art facilities that are internet connected, accessible, with modern ventilation systems, which is why our government is delivering a major investment that accelerates construction to get it done for parents, students, and communities.”

This latest funding announcement is part of the Ontario government’s commitment to provide $14 billion over 10 years to support school construction, repair, and renewal. There are currently more than 300 child care and education building-related projects in development across Ontario with more than 100 actively under construction.
