Québec election: what you need to know to vote on Oct. 3

Québec’s provincial election is Oct. 3. Here’s what you need to know in order to get your vote in.
When and where can you vote
On Oct. 3, polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You must vote in your riding. If you’re not sure what riding you live in, you can verify it here.
Anyone outside Québec on Oct. 3 could have voted by mail, but the deadline to register was Sept. 14 at 11:59 p.m.
Advance polling (which was Sept. 25-26) has also ended.
Who can vote
Canadian citizens who have lived in Québec for at least six months and are 18-years-old and older can cast their ballot.
But you must ensure you are registered to vote. You can verify that here.
The deadline to register was Sept. 29.
When you go vote you must bring one of the following pieces of ID:
- Driver’s licence
- Health insurance card
- Canadian passport
- Certificate of Indian Status
- Canadian Armed Forces identity card
It’s also a good idea to bring the yellow voting slip you received in the mail to facilitate the process.
Which parties can you vote for
The parties running in the election are:
- Coalition Avenir Québec (François Legault)
- Québec Liberal Party (Dominique Anglade)
- Conservative Party of Québec (Éric Duhaime)
- Québec Solidaire (Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois)
- Parti Québécois (Paul St-Pierre Plamondon)
- Bloc Montréal (Balarama Holness)
- Canadian Party of Québec (Colin Standish)
Keep in mind you will not be voting for Québec’s premier when you cast your ballot. You’ll be voting for candidates in your riding.
