Resident of Gatineau charged with stunt driving after fleeing traffic stop in Madawaska Valley

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have laid stunt driving charges after a driver fled a traffic stop in the Township of Madawaska Valley.

Shortly after a 10 p.m. on Monday, July 4, members of the Killaloe Detachment of the OPP attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle on Highway 60.

The OPP says the motorcycle had been travelling 130km/h in a posted 80km/h zone, and for safety reasons, officers did not pursue the bike when the driver failed to stop. 

The motorcycle was observed a short time later on Mask Road, near Round Lake Road, and a second traffic stop was conducted.

As a result, a 24-year-old individual from Gatineau has been charged with the following Highway traffic Act (HTA) offences:

  • Fail to stop for police
  • Operating a motor vehicle while performing a stunt – speeding

The defendant was issued a summons to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe, their vehicle was towed and impounded for fourteen days and their driver's licence was seized and suspended for thirty days.
