A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Smiths Falls and surrounding areas.
Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms that could produce winds gusts of up to 90 km/h, heavy downpours and nickel-sized hail.
The weather agency says these conditions could lead to loose objects being tossed, damage to buildings and broken tree branches.
Heavy downpours could also lead to flash-flooding in some areas and water pooling on roads.
The thunderstorm watch is in effect for an area including Smiths Falls, Perth, Lanark County, Sharbot Lake, and Plevna.
Thunderstorms are expected to last into the afternoon and possibly into the early evening.
The province's Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and Emergency Management recommends the public take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
