Shepherds of Good Hope breaks ground on new Montreal Road supportive housing facility

Work is underway on a new $11-million Shepherds of Good Hope supportive housing facility, located on Montreal Road at Lang's Road.

SGH officials were joined for a ceremony Tuesday morning by Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, Rideau-Rockcliffe Ward Councillor Rawlson King, and Rideau-Vanier Ward Councillor Mathieu Fleury, and Ottawa-Vanier MP Mona Fortier.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide homes for 42 currently homeless individuals of all genders,” Deirdre Freiheit, President and CEO of Shepherds of Good Hope. “Our supportive housing model is specifically designed to meet the complex needs of homeless adults who have experienced trauma, resulting in mental health challenges and addictions.”

The City of Ottawa is chipping in $7-million for this project, as it aligns with its 10 Year Plan on Housing and Homelessness. 

“The City of Ottawa is committed to providing safe and affordable housing for all its residents and ending chronic homelessness as set out in our 10-Year Housing and Homeless Plan,” said Watson. “By working collaboratively with Shepherds of Good Hope and investing in new supporting housing residences, the City is increasing its supportive housing stock while helping our most vulnerable adults.”

The building will be Shepherds of Good Hope's fifth supportive housing facility.
