Slow down: More photo radar cameras coming to school zones

More automated photo radar cameras are coming to Ottawa school zones.

The city’s transportation committee has approved a plan to add another 15 cameras by the end of next year, with an additional 15 to 25 photo radar cameras each year after that.

These would be on top of the current eight photo radar cameras the city was using to test out the idea.

The cameras would be installed in community safety zones — near schools are first, but could be added in other areas like near playgrounds.

Revenue from the cameras would pay for their costs, with any excess being used for road safety projects.

The plan will go to Ottawa city council for final approval next week.
