A familiar face at the council table is looking to make a return to municipal politics.

Steve Desroches, who served time as the city councillor for Gloucester-South Nepean for two terms between 2006 and 2014, announced on May 18 he registered as a candidate in his home ward of Riverside South-Findlay Creek in this fall's municipal election.

Desroches, who also served as deputy mayor during his days as an Ottawa city councillor, said on The Sam Laprade Show on Wednesday, May 18 that he provides strong leadership and experience as a municipal politician with the council table set to see some major turnover come this fall.

“I am excited to put my name forward, and I feel recharged,” said Desroches. “I think I left city hall on a good note, and I was very proud of the accomplishments at the time, and there's a lot facing our city, especially coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic and residents want to see the city back on its feet.”

Desroches said Riverside South and Findlay Creek are rapidly growing with many new families making the areas their home. He said families living in the ward are in dire need of a community recreation centre.

“If the City of Ottawa is serious about building these 15 minute communities, rec centres should be part of the idea,” said Desroches.

Desroches said he's excited to get out and talk to residents over the course of the next few months.

“I think I'm tune with the needs and challenges families are facing,” added Desroches.
