Things LRT riders need to know

By OttawaMatters Staff

Now that the trains are built, and the city is in possession of the figurative key to the system, we can start to look ahead to a time when we can travel across the city using light rail.

The system will be open to the public on Saturday, September 14.

What are some important dates?

September 1: The city will make some slight changes as they transition from a summer schedule to a peak schedule.
September 14: Official launch day.
October 1: Fare freeze ends. Fares will rise an average of 2.5 per cent.
October 6: New bus network rolls out.

What are the hours of operation?

Monday to Thursday from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Friday from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Sunday and holidays from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

How often will trains run?

During peak hours, trains will run every five minutes or less. After 11 p.m. trains are expected to run roughly every 15 minutes.

Where will I be able to find a schedule?

OC Transpo will be updating their website and mobile app.

Will my bus fare work for the trains?

Customers can transfer between the buses and trains for 90 minutes on a single fare during weekdays, and two hours on evenings and weekends.

Will anyone be able to assist me if I can't find my way at a station?

OC Transpo employees will be wearing red vests at all 13 stations during a three-week transition period after public launch. They will be able to assist with any customer questions.

Will I be allowed to bring my pets on board?

Small pets are allowed on board but must be in a carrier or crate in the owner's lap. Service animals must be on a short leash.
