Two teens safe after kayak flipped at Petrie Island

Two teens were rescued in the city’s east end after their kayak had flipped over.

Ottawa Fire Services said the received a 911 call on Saturday from a teen reporting that their rented two-person kayak had flipped over in rough water and windy conditions at Petrie Island.

The caller was using a water proof cellphone and was able to confirm that both occupants were in the water and were wearing life jackets.

The teens, both girls in their mid teens, were able to get to shore safely.

Ottawa Fire Water Rescue Technicians helped the teens from shore and carried one teen to be assessed by Ottawa paramedics on scene.

They will not be transported to hospital.
