Woman freed from under vehicle, now in hospital

By Mike Vlasveld

A woman in her 60s is in serious but stable condition after becoming trapped under her own vehicle on Dolce Crescent in Riverside South.

Ottawa Fire Services received a call from Ottawa Paramedic Services around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, reporting someone trapped under a mini-van.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the woman was trapped under the tire, but was conscious and in stable condition.

Officials believe the woman forgot to put the vehicle in park before stepping out of it.

She was freed from under the vehicle just before 2 p.m. and continued to be treated by paramedics who said she suffered burns to her leg and possible internal injuries.

Fire officials also reported other non-critical civilian injuries in the incident, and are reminding drivers not involved in a collision to yield to emergency vehicles trying to access a scene.

They add that the first person to the scene of a motor vehicle incident should only approach the scene if it is safe to do so.

Anyone trapped in crash is urged to call 911 if possible, tell the dispatcher they are trapped and answer questions as best as they can and follow instructions.
