Freezie truck fire closes Hwy 401 EB, west of Brockville

The Ministry of the Environment has been called in, as diesel has been spilled on the roadway.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County are investigating an incident in which a truck full of 'Freezies' caught fire in the eastbound lanes of Hwy 401.

It happened at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, west of Brockville in Elizabethtown-Kitley Township. 

Police said the transport became completely engulfed in flames causing east and westbound lanes of Highway 401 to be closed.

The Ministry of the Environment has been contacted, as the truck spilled diesel on the road.

No one was injured in the fire.

The eastbound lanes of Hwy 401 remain closed to allow for the investigation and vehicle removal. Detours are in place at Long Beach.
