Large amount of heroin destined for Outaouais, seized by Gatineau police

The Gatineau Police Service has made an arrest in one of its largest heroin busts of all time.
Officers uncovered 634 g of purple heroin, some marijuana and cocaine, as well as several cell phones, highly valued jewels and cash in the search of four locations around noon on July 3.
Those properties included an apartment at 44 Claire Street in Gatineau, three Ottawa storage units, three safety boxes located in Ottawa, and a security cabinet kept inside a Toronto bank.
Police said the operation, which started with an investigation about two weeks ago, was aimed at ending a narcotics trafficking network, whose substances were destined for the Outaouais market.
The drugs are expected to be analyzed by Health Canada to see if they contain fentanyl or carfentanil.
The Gun's and Gangs Division of the Ottawa Police Service and the Toronto Police Service assisted the SPVG in conducting searches on their respective territories.
Gérard Rakithan Gérard, 29, who was living in the Gatineau area at the time of the operation, was arrested and appeared in the Court of Quebec on July 4 after multiple charges related to the possession of narcotics were authorized by the Director of Criminal Prosecutions and penal.
