Loaded shotgun seized, three teens arrested in Hunt Club area traffic stop

A trio of teens are facing charges, including careless use of a firearm, after a traffic stop in a residential neighbourhood near Hunt Club Road and Conroy Road.

In the late afternoon of Oct. 14, 2019, officers responded to a road rage complaint on Topley Crescent near Karsh Drive.

A vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the complaint was spotted and stopped. While speaking with the driver and passengers, officers noticed a gun inside the vehicle.  

Three males were arrested at scene without any incident, and the shotgun was found to be loaded.

The Guns and Gangs Unit has laid charges as follows:

Youssef Makieh, 19, of Ottawa, was charged with:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession  of a firearm knowing it’s possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
  • Common nuisance

Young offender, 17, of Ottawa, was charged with:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
  • Common nuisance

A third teen was charged in this incident but CityNews has learned their charges were withdrawn in December 2020.
