UPDATE: OPP say Montreal hiker missing in Ottawa Valley has been found safe

UPDATE, August 16: Provincial police say they found Daniel Zapata safe Sunday afternoon.

OPP are currently searching for a missing 26-year-old man who went missing while camping in the Ottawa Valley.

Police said in a news release Saturday morning that Daniel Zapata was camping with another person in a remote, densely wooded area along Brent Road in Head, Clara and Maria Township.

The township is located about two-and-a-half hours northwest of Ottawa, and 25 minutes west of Deep River along the Ottawa River.

He was last seen at 11 a.m. on Saturday after leaving camp to go on a hike.

Zapata is described as 5’9” with a slim build, has brown shoulder-length hair in dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue and white striped t-shirt and black Adidas shoes.

Police added that at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, they were notified of his disappearance and a search started that included the OPP’s Emergency Response Team, the Canine Unit and Aviation Unit.

There is concern for Zapata’s well-being.

The search continues.
