Ottawa man facing charges in two carjackings

By Mike Vlasveld

The Ottawa Police Service has arrested one man following an early morning carjacking on Fallowfield Road at Woodroffe Avenue in Nepean, and it turns out it was the same suspect charged in a similar incident on Sunday.

Officers responded to a call from the area at 5:34 a.m., Thursday.

Police say a man approached the victim, told him that he had a gun and to get out of the vehicle before he drove away. The victim was not injured.

Responding officers spotted the stolen vehicle 'many kilometres' away. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect arrested without incident.

The same suspect was arrested and charged after a carjacking in Lowertown, Sunday.

That one happened at 9:08 a.m. on Charlotte Street.

Police say a man approached an elderly person and forcefully pulled the victim from their vehicle, then drove off.

Later that day, Bikes and Beats officers recognized the vehicle from the description. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was arrested without incident.

Mahamoud Abdillahi, 23, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Robbery with violence (2 counts)
  • Dangerous driving
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence

Abdillahi is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
