Ottawa public school teacher facing charges after sexual assault investigation involving student

By Mike Vlasveld

A 56-year-old Ottawa public school teacher is facing four sexual assault-related charges following a police investigation into allegations of sexual offences involving a student.

Ottawa police say the incidents they investigated, which involved a girl under the age of 18, happened while the man was a teacher with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) between 2015 and 2018.

The OCDSB calls the allegations troubling and says it has been cooperating fully with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) since the start of the investigation. The school board explains that it contacted authorities after it was first made aware of concerning allegations in 2018 and employee was immediately removed from the classroom at that time.

Darren Green, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Sexual assault (two counts)
  • Sexual interference
  • Sexual exploitation

He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

The Ottawa Police Service is concerned that there may be more victims in this case.
