Police bust major drug operation in Gatineau

By Mike Vlasveld

Four people are facing charges after Gatineau police raided six locations in the city, turning up cocaine, crack, weapons and drug packaging materials.

The searches began around 4 a.m., Thursday, and ended around 10 a.m., targeting five residences and one storage unit:

  • 23 rue de la Civilization
  • 18 rue Dompierre, apartment B
  • 404 boulevard du Plateau, apartment 1
  • 30 rue Chauveau
  • 22 rue du Vison, apartment 1
  • 178 Freeman Road, for the storage unit

A vehicle was also the subject of a search warrant.

The raids allowed the police to seize:

  • Cocaine (651 grams)
  • Crack (15 grams)
  • Air pistol
  • Hydraulic press
  • Electric pulse weapon
  • Equipment used for the preparation, packaging, storage and distribution of drugs
  • Canadian currency ($6,745)
  • Cell phones (22)

Three men, ages 22 to 24, all residents of Gatineau, were arrested and released on a promise to appear in court. The three are known to the SPVG.

They face a number of charges, including conspiracy, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and drug trafficking.

A woman, of Gatineau, was also arrested during the operation. She has also been released under promise to appear.

Charges of unauthorized use of a computer and breach of trust will be filed against her with the DPCP since she would have benefited from her status as an employee at the Société d'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) to access privileged information on behalf of individuals arrested in connection with this case.

The SAAQ provided full cooperation to the SPVG in order to gather all the necessary elements for this portion of the investigation and lay charges against the woman.

More arrests are expected in this case, as the police investigation continues.

Gatineau police say this bust became possible thanks to tips from members of the public. The SPVG invites anyone with information about drug trafficking or local gang activity to contact their info line at 819 246-INFO (4636). All information will be treated confidentially.
