Leeds Grenville paramedics help Ornge transfer COVID-19 patients to Ottawa-area hospitals

The Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service is chipping in, as Ornge air deals with a high volume of patients transfers due to COVID-19 patients filling up ICU units in Ontario hospitals.

The service helped Ornge deliver COVID-19 patients to the Ottawa-area over the weekend.

Patients were moved by ambulance from overcrowded institutions across the province to the Ottawa Hospital and the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

The service says the trips accounted for close to 2,000 km.

Leeds Grenville paramedics say Ornge is no stranger to the service, as they often utilize their helicopter for rapid trauma transport.

In addition to providing an ambulance and paramedics, the service also assisted in transferring patients brought to Brockville General Hospital on their fixed wing aircraft.
