Body found in car fire near Renfrew, OPP investigating

Police and firefighters responding to a car fire west of Renfrew made a grisly discovery Sunday evening. After extinguishing the fire a corpse was found inside the vehicle.

Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Admaston-Bromley Township Fire and Grattan Township Fire Department responded to a call regarding a vehicle on fire shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, in the Township of Admaston-Bromley, immediately west of Renfrew. OPP only discovered the body once firefighters quelled the fire.

The victims identity, nor the cause of death has been determined, but investigators do not believe there is a threat to public safety. As the investigation is still in the early stages, no further details were released.

Upper Ottawa Valley OPP and continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the Forensic Identification Services, the Regional Support Team, Office of the Fire Marshal alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
