UPDATE: Manotick garage fire with ‘multiple hazards’ under investigation

By Mike Vlasveld

An Ottawa fire investigator is on the scene of a blaze on First Line Road, south of Manotick.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) says it received multiple 911 calls at 12:18 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, reporting a large garage full of equipment was on fire. Callers were unsure if anyone was inside the building and could see flames and black smoke pouring out.

The first crews on scene found live hydro wires at the front of the building that were on fire and coming down. Along with the wires, OFS says there were multiple other hazards inside the garage, including 25 lbs propane cans of gasoline and diesel, a boat and a lawn tractor both filled with gasoline, diesel oil and hydraulic fuel.

One side of the garage collapsed at 12:50 p.m. and within 15 minutes the entire structure had collapsed.

The fire was under control at 1:10 p.m. and hydro crews arrived to shut off the power to the building at 1:19 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire.
