VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Since B.C.’s new drunk driving laws came into effect, the demand for late night transit services has been growing.
TransLink is adding more late night bus service for those people who are out and about partying Friday and Saturday nights. Drew Snider speaks for the company and says they’ve noticed a big increase in ridership over the last couple of weeks alone. “Come Friday and Saturday, we are seeing more people on those routes, all across the board.”
Snider says as of this Friday night, N19 NightBus, which parallels the Expo Line via Kingsway from Vancouver to New Westminster and Surrey, will add one more run that leaves downtown at 2:30 a.m. It only goes to New Westminster, but from there, people can catch the N19 that goes to Surrey. A total of 12 NightBuses are running right now, and cover more ground that the three Skytrain lines, according to TransLink.
There are no plans to expand Skytrain or Canada Line service.
