Three teens charged with armed robbery in mall heist

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Three teenage boys have been charged with armed robbery, after the Montecristo Jewellers in Oakridge Mall was held up in late September.

A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both from Vancouver, are now behind bars. A now-16 year old boy from Surrey was arrested at the scene and has already been charged.

Sergeant Dale Weidman says they don’t think it’s linked to organized crime and the teens were essentially recruited. “They are not the organizers of this crime. They carried it out. The people that put these youths up to it, they’re walking around today free while the youths are sitting in jail.”

Police say they have a good idea of who recruited the teens, but wouldn’t say who.
